Swimming among fish and their genes: genetic engineering in fish farming
Keywords:
aquaculture, genetic engineering, tilapiaAbstract
We currently face the challenge of guaranteeing the sustainable production of healthy and quality foods. For this reason, technologies that promote productivity are developed and applied in various food production systems. In fish farming, it is key to increase product production, performance, nutritional value, and sustainability, with genetic modification essential. This article presents the advances and applications of genetic engineering in fish farming. Some methods used are also discussed and ethical and environmental debates are addressed. It concludes by highlighting the potential of this technology to guarantee food security and sustainability.
