Las bacterias y levaduras: aliadas silenciosas de una agricultura sostenible

Resumen

Las bacterias que interaccionan con las plantas tradicionalmente se han considerado organismos patógenos responsables de deformaciones, esterilidad y pérdida de la calidad en cultivos. Sin embargo, entre ellas existe un grupo de microorganismos benéficos conocidos como bacterias promotoras de crecimiento vegetal (PGPR), cuyo potencial biotecnológico ha tomada relevancia para el desarrollo de una agricultura sostenible. Impulsados por la necesidad de reducir la contaminación ambiental derivada del uso excesivo de fertilizantes químicos y enfrentar el estrés climático, los investigadores han identificado a las PGPR como una alternativa para favorecer una agricultura más eficiente y respetuosa con el ambiente.
