The role of government funding in incentivizing biotechnology in businesses

Abstract

Government funding plays a key role in promoting R&D&I in businesses, especially in biotechnology. While in Mexico the private sector invests only 20% in these activities, programs such as PEI have incentivized innovation. The PEI shows that small companies stand out in biotechnology projects, particularly in sectors like chemistry and agribusiness. In addition to funding, trade policies, intellectual property, and industrial clusters also support R&D&I. Government support remains crucial for biotechnological development, driving advances in health, production, and sustainability.
