Biomaterials engineering to improve human life
Keywords:
Biomaterials, engineering, metalsAbstract
Biomaterials are materials of natural or synthetic origin that can coexist with the human body without causing harm, thus allowing for tissue repair, organ replacement, or the development of medical devices. The use of biomaterials is so common that we will all encounter them at some point in our lives (such as dental implants, contact lenses, injectable drug-releasing hydrogels, catheters, probes, sutures, and joint prostheses, among others). Scientific advances have enabled the development of new manufacturing methods and techniques, such as 3D printing, as well as the selection of harmless materials capable of improving human life.
