Abstract

Minerals are elements or compounds that have a crystalline structure. They are formed through geological processes in nature and are currently developed through chemical synthesis. Their physical and optical properties, crystalline structure, and chemical composition have enabled diverse applications in biomedicine, biotechnology, bioelectronics, and the fabrication of biomaterials at the nanoscale. Science seeks to understand the composition and transformation of minerals for the development of new bioindustrial applications.
