Probiotics: small allies that support our health

At this very moment, trillions of microorganisms live in our bodies without us even noticing, forming part of our microbiota. Among these tiny inhabitants are probiotics, important allies in maintaining our health. These small microorganisms act mainly in the gastrointestinal tract, where they support several beneficial processes. Probiotics can inhibit harmful microorganisms, produce beneficial substances, protect the intestinal barrier, and stimulate the immune system. In this article, we review how probiotics act and why maintaining a balanced microbiota is essential for our well-being.
