Abstract

At Cinvestav, Dr. Rosa María del Ángel investigates how dengue and Zika viruses hijack host cells (entry, replication, immune evasion, and intracellular trafficking). Trained at Universidad La Salle and Cinvestav, with doctoral research experience at Columbia University, she has advanced fundamental virology that exposes actionable vulnerabilities, including dengue-driven nuclear remodeling, and has bridged mechanisms to pragmatic antiviral leads by targeting lipid- and cholesterol-related pathways. Her legacy is also built through mentorship: dozens of theses and scientific networks that strengthen preparedness and response during outbreaks.
